The regime of Bashar al-Assad fell to opposition forces in the early hours of 8th December 2024.
Having made rapid advances from north-west and south Syria in the past week, armed opposition groups then secured complete control of Damascus for the first time in the nation’s 13 year-old conflict. Assad and his family are reported to have fled to Moscow.
